San Damiano d’Asti invites you to experience the 77th edition of the “Fiera del Cappone” on December 8th and 9th. This traditional festival, organized by the Comune di San Damiano d’Asti with the support of the Piedmont Region and the Pro Loco di San Damiano and the Enoteca Regionale Colline Alfieri, is part of a month-long celebration within the enchanting “Magico Paese di Natale.”
On Sunday, December 8th, the festivities include the second day of the spectacular Living Nativity Scene and the traditional Christmas Markets, creating a vibrant and joyful atmosphere. The “Fiera del Cappone” will take place in the heart of the town, including Piazza Libertà, the Historic Center, and the Foro Boario, offering a mix of exhibitions, markets, and festive activities.
In 2009 the Association for the Protection of the Cappone of San Damiano d’Asti was founded through the collaboration of the Municipality, Coldiretti, and local producers to preserve a historic tradition linked to the annual December fair. The association promotes the visibility of cappone through a strict set of rules that ensure the product’s quality. The “free-range” farming and controlled feeding respect animal welfare regulations, following centuries-old traditions. The goal is to meet the growing demand for natural and traceable foods.

Sunday, December 8th
8:00 AM: The small animal market opens in Piazza Libertà.
9:00 AM: Local food and wine products, with a special focus on the iconic cappone (capon), are displayed in the Historic Center.
10:00 AM: The traditional Christmas Markets open, accompanied by a performance from the Banda Alfiera.
11:00 AM: Official inauguration of the fair.
12:00 PM: The Pro Loco di San Damiano hosts a special lunch featuring dishes dedicated to the cappone at the Foro Boario.
Monday, December 9th
The fair continues throughout the day with the small animal market and exhibitions.
Sunday Lunch
The highlight of the event is the traditional lunch on Sunday at the Foro Boario, offering an authentic taste of Piedmontese cuisine. Here is the menu (prize 38 € – under 12 € 25):
Capon salad.
Spinach flan with fondue.
Raviolini in broth.
Mixed boiled meats with sauces (capon, muscolo, “brutto e buono,” cotechino, and testina).
Roasted carrots, served with water, wine, coffee, and amaro.
